Feast of the Holy Seven Maccabees

On August 1, Roman and Orthodox Catholics commemorate the martyrdom of a Jewish woman and her seven young sons. They were preceded in martyrdom by the scholar and community elder Eleazar, who similarly refused to violate Jewish law.
